Launched in 2017, BYBI is a London-based cult beauty brand co-founded by Elsie and Dominika. A natural evolution of their platform Clean Beauty Insiders, Elsie and Dominika launched BYBI amid frustration at how many great, results-driven natural beauty products still continued to be marketed as health products: ‘As beauty lovers, we felt like we had to compromise on aesthetic when buying better formulated products. We created BYBI to cater for the need of aesthetic vegan, natural beauty products that felt mainstream, rather than alternative.’ With sustainable beauty at its core, BYBI avoids single use plastic and non recyclable components, making sure the production of ingredients isn’t harmful to the planet or the humans that harvest it.

‘Be confident and be nimble. Don’t be afraid if you need to pivot and change directions, it what makes a start up a start up!’

THEIR HERO BUY? Bybi’s Supercharge Serum
‘This concentration of Squalane, Prickly Pear and Jasmine oils moisturise, soften and encourage skin cell rejuvenation. Use at night – either alone or added to your usual overnight face cream – or wear under your makeup in the morning, for a fresh, dewy look. Simply warm two drops in hands and apply to face and neck.’

After finding fame with her lifestyle blog, Isabella Löwengrip – Creative Director and Co-Founder at Löwengrip – went on to establish one of Sweden's best-known beauty companies. Today over 1.5 million people visit her site every week. Offering gentle products that offer fast results, Lowengrip has fast become a go-to brand for time-poor, successful women who want to look good.

‘When you work with something that you’re really passionate about, you become your own source of energy. Find what you love doing and your job will be your favorite part of life – something that you never want to stop doing. As I love making beauty that works for every skin type, I won't quit my hunt for effective beauty solutions that suit women all over the globe.’

Liz Earle’s mark on the beauty industry is undeniable, and – thanks to her legacy – Liz Earle Co. has always been a brand with women at the helm, and at its heart. Liz Earle MBE stepped down from her role as Global Brand Ambassador in 2017 and is now a wellbeing entrepreneur, TV presenter – and the number one bestselling author of over 35 books. She’s also mother to five children.

‘Look after your wellbeing. ‘It’s important to keep your body moving. It’s too easy to spend all day looking at a screen. Go for a walk, it’s great to feel the fresh air on my face and I like that time alone to think – it can be quite meditative. And focus your work on what you’re passionate about, so it doesn’t feel like work.’

HER HERO BUY? Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish
‘This original, multi award-winning hot cloth cleanser belongs in everyone’s beauty cabinet, quickly removes daily grime and make up to leave skin clean, soft and radiant. Used morning or evening, the cult formulation works on every age and skin type, offering concentrated yet gentle cleansing power with naturally active ingredients for smoother, cleaner skin.’

Bouclème's Founder and CEO, Michele Scott-Lynch’s put effective hair care for curly hair on the map, after years of frustration at the beauty industry: ‘When I was growing up, curly hair was largely ignored,’ says Michele. ‘There was no advice on caring for curls, no curly role models and absolutely zero effective products on the market. Hairdressers would encourage you to straighten it, so you couldn’t even rely on them for tips. ‘The internet and social media changed all this: it became a mine of information as curly girls started sharing their daily routines and favourite products, and this strong global curly community just grew and grew.’ Thanks to Michele, Bouclème understands the needs of curly hair and the difficulties managing it on a daily basis, best delivering healthy, frizz-free curls using all natural ingredients.

Don’t compare yourself to others. Comparison is the thief of joy.

HER HERO BUY? Bouclème's Hydrating Hair Cleanser
‘This gentle low lather hydrating cleanser is perfect for fine hair, loose waves and co washers looking for a deeper cleanse. Cleanses without upsetting natural moisture balance. Apply to fingertips and massage firmly throughout scalp stimulating blood flow.’

Inspired to start her own skincare brand after homeopathically curing herself of the Epstein-Barr virus, Emma pressed reset on her career as an artist in her thirties: ‘I was so exhausted, I physically couldn’t do it. I had to change my career. I got very into beauty because I’d learned how to massage my face to help balance my internal organs – like acupressure for the face.’ Fast forward nearly twenty years and Emma Hardie has a cult skincare collection under her beauty belt, as loved by the likes of Kate Hudson and Fearne Cotton.

‘I learnt to become strong, it’s not something you’re born with. It’s to do with belief in yourself. If I could pass on any advice it would be to have patience and don’t fear failure. Fear of failure is non-tangible, it’s an emotion and not a reality. Fear is just a thought and you cannot touch a thought, but you can change it.’

HER HERO BUY? Emma Hardie Purifying Pink Clay Detox Mask with Cleansing Cloth
‘The radiance-enhancing formula smooths over skin to release its potent cocktail of ingredients, including the brand's signature Moringa Oil to neutralise free radical damage. Smooth a thin layer over the skin as required, and leave for 10-15 minutes.’

In 1981, long before the Clean Beauty revolution, Neals Yard Remedies Founder Romy Fraser opened a small natural health and beauty shop in London's Covent Garden with a bank loan of £18k. Now stocked in 21 countries, across five continents. ‘Our success was down to word-of-mouth,’ says Romy. ‘Someone who’d been successfully treated for back pain would bring a friend who suffered from migraines. Eventually we had queues coming out of the door. ‘It is really exciting to see how simple remedies could affect people’s lives. People had more control over their own health and could see that they could take a role in looking after themselves.’

‘People are seeing that healthy living impacts the quality of their lives. Nowadays we are so driven by the internet and social media, that we have so much less private space for ourselves. I think the move towards wellness is a way of getting that balance back.’

‘Suitable for all skin types, this much loved, beautifully rich, yet easily absorbed moisturiser blends balancing rose to rehydrate and cool, with extracts of protecting mallow and almond essential oil to leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.’

Jane Wurwand started her career sweeping the floor in a Poole hairdressers, aged 13, before training as a beautician and going on to found the esteemed skincare brand Dermalogica, which sells more than 28 million products globally each year. Wurwand has gone on to launch FITE (Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship) Entrepreneur Accelerator – an online, purpose-driven education program that fills critical business skills gaps to help small, entrepreneurial businesses grow to scale

‘Don’t you’re going to get a result straight away, every single time. In any good gardening, when you’re planting, some things come up straight away, other times you put seeds in and don’t see anything happening for ages. But you have to trust it will all grow.’

Fabled by Marie Claire Executive Content Editor Gilly Ferguson swears by Dermalogica MultiVitamin Power Firm. Apply a pea-sized amount to fingertips, working from outer corners of the eye to the nose in light motions morning and evening. This a powerful, AGE-fighting, firming eye cream helps combat lines around the delicate eye area and feels heavenly on the skin.

Katalin Berenvi says it’s important to learn to wind down: ‘Sundays are about catching up on time I didn’t have during the week, spending time with my children - a bit of breakfast, and then I like to spend a bit of time on my own.’

THE HERO BUY? Erborian CC Creme Clair
Erborian’s BB and CC creams quickly reached cult status after the brand’s launch. The CC CRÈME is a ‘High Definition’ illuminator. Upon application, the multi-purpose formula adapts to your skin tone, revealing a more even complexion.
